Long live all those moments you hold dear.
Mmmm…Light nonfat peach yogurt :)

So it starts today…my “during hubby’s deployment” me is going to make a comeback. The “exercise everyday, gonna stay away from those yummy girl scout cookies, go to bed earlier” me HAS to make a comeback. Why? Because I shouldn’t have to make a reason to be healthier and have a little “me time”. Not necessarily to lose weight, just to FEEL better. And I figured that being in an entirely new setting would be the perfect time to start it. And I don’t think I can really make any excuses with the blue skies and miles of sidewalks and bike trails that this place has to offer.
Exercise? Check. Breakfast? Check. Mid Morning snack? Check. Now I just have some housework to do and then I can wait for the hubby to come home to have a healthy lunch and squeeze in some Wii boxing (I have to prove that I wasn’t just lucky last time). Baby steps, my friend. Baby steps indeed. :)
A trip to remember. Entry #1: The Spirits
So I believe apologies are in order since I have not had the chance to blog my adventures in quite some time. For the past three weeks I have travelled cross country from good ol’ Fayetteville, NC to Sierra Vista, AZ. I promise I will not bore you with a lengthy composition of our travels, but I do plan on hitting on a few interesting encounters that we did have. So over a couple of days I will work on my story telling skills and tell you all about them.
After avoiding that horrible winter storm that swept across the country like the plague, we decided to leave my parents’ house in Texas and start the drive up to Junction City, Kansas. ‘What is there’ you ask? More family. This time my sister-in-law, her husband, and their two little ones. So after looking at each route, the hubby decided it would be best if we took the Indian Turnpike that goes through Oklahoma. Even after looking at the map and realizing I would have to deal with tolls (Ugh!), it still looked like a harmless route to me.
So we’re driving on the Indian Turnpike. Everything is very quiet and no one is on the road. I look out the window at the scenery because it is one of my favorite things to do on a long trip cross country. And next thing I see is something flying fast towards the windshield of our brand new 2010 Town & Country Minivan. I covered my face and screamed! The hawk (my husband informed me of this after I had stopped freaking out) had miscalculated our speed and pulled up too late, bounced on the windshield and hit my side view mirror. When I finally peered through my fingers, I was appalled to see that my mirror had popped right out and was dangling by a few wires. All I could think about was, ’This is a brand new car!’ I looked and my husband and he pulled over to the side of the road. After a few attempts we finally placed the mirror back into its socket thingy (sorry I don’t know much about cars). It happened so fast that I swear that my heart skipped a beat. So mind you, the entire trip I was freaking out every time I saw a bird in the road. Rightfully so if you ask me.
But that wasn’t the last problem we had. So after calming down with that incident, we continued to drive on the Indian Turnpike. Next thing I know, something gets thrown at our windshield. It wasn’t a rock and the hubby thought it looked like a snowball. Who in their right mind throws snowballs at cars? I looked up at the hills and saw not a single person around. I threw my hands up in the air and said, ‘Ok that’s it! The native american spirits are not happy with us! What did you do?!’ We both got a laugh about it but I can’t tell you how happy I was once we were off of that turnpike.
I thought we had gotten lucky. A hawk and a snowball did not damage our new car. But oh no. The spirits followed us. Because the moment we arrived in Sierra Vista, AZ, a truck in front of us kicked up a rock and it hit our windshield. That’s right. You guessed it. A lovely little chip in my window. I looked at my hubby and said, ‘Are you kidding me?!”
:)
